Meet the Henderson Hellbenders Composite Team
The Henderson Hellbenders are a youth mountain bike team in the North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League for 6th-12th graders who attend school or homeschool in Henderson County, North Carolina.
Ride With Us!
Any 6th-12th grader in a school in Henderson County, NC is welcome to join our team. We have riders of all experience levels. You don’t have to be interested in racing to ride with us - all you need is a bike and a helmet!
Henderson Hellbenders are a Spring Season NICA team and we ride from December through the first weekend of June. We focus on skill building, group rides, and having fun, as well as offering racing options with all the other teams in our state league.
Registration for the 2024-2025 season is not yet open. Please submit your information to be contacted when we have more information for the upcoming season, as well as any information session, meet ups or group rides planned.
Who Can Join?
NICA stands for National Interscholastic Cycling Association. NICA has 31 leagues in 30 states throughout the US. The Henderson Hellbenders are a composite team in the North Carolina League. You can find more info about the state league on their website: www.northcarolinamtb.org
NICA’s mission is: “We build strong minds, bodies, character, and communities through cycling.” They stand for Fun, Inclusivity, Equity, Respect, and Community.

What is NICA?
We celebrate and educate our Team Values- or as we call them the 5 S’s
Stewardship: we will act as good stewards of our trails and resources, and positively represent our cycling community
Self-Esteem: we will practice positive self-talk, and not get discouraged
Safety: we will ride responsibly, keeping the safety of ourselves and others in mind
Selflessness: we will serve our fellow teammates, build each other up, and welcome all riders
Strength: we will work towards getting stronger in all senses of the word (physically, mentally, socially, etc.), while building a stronger team and community.
